PROS
- Great AOE damage
- Good Crowd Control
- Good Mobility
- AoE Heavy attack poke
CONS
- Cooldown dependent against Melee Builds
Mastery Points
Fire Staff Mastery Points
Fire Staff Active Abilities – Pillar of Fire, Fireball, Burnout
Fireball is the key ability for Fire staff. You will use Fireball off cooldown to apply pressure to targets at range and apply Smolder to your targets. Fire Staff has a lot of tools that applies tons of damage pressure to melee and ranged targets and helps you kill people through healing.
Burnout is a great utility spell than can help you kite melee builds and dash out of danger. Also, Burnout can be used offensively as it explodes at the end of travel, but it’s recommended to save burnout for defensive instances in most situations.
Ice Gauntlet Mastery Points
Active Abilities – Ice Storm, Ice Shower, Entombed
Ice Shower is the key ability of the Ice Gauntlet and one of the best CC abilities in New World. Learning how to land Ice Shower on targets is key to setting up kills for you and your group. Ice Storm provides good AOE damage that can be used as zone control or pressure targets.
Entombed is the final active ability in the Ice Gauntlet Mastery tree. It is a Utility spell that can help you survive the pressure and minimize damage taken if used correctly.
Attributes
The attribute split for the Elementalist build is 450 INT, 150 CON
This split allows for some extra HP and survivability while maintaining a high amount of damage. It is not recommended to go lower than 150 Constitution in PVP, as you will lose the bonus Crit resistance from the 150 CON perk.
Equipment
In this Section of the Elementalist New World Ice Gauntlet Build, we will break down what equipment you will use. This includes armor and weapon perks and equip weight
For this build, we will be in the light equip-weight category. In this equip weight category, you’ll gain access to elite mobility and 20% more damage. For example, the best way to obtain this equip load is with the following armor setups:
1.) MED CHEST, LIGHT HEAD, PANTS, GLOVES, BOOTS
2.) LIGHT CHEST, MEDIUM PANTS, (2 LIGHT, 1 MED) HEAD, GLOVES, and BOOTS
Armor
Artifact Armor
For this build, we recommend the following Artifact Armor pieces:
- Tumbler Shoes – Successfully dodging an attack, gives you 15% empower and 25% fortify for 5s, you are also healed for 200 + 2% of your max hp.
- Featherweight Jacket – Weightless: This armor is weightless
- Nimble Leather Coat – Highly Refreshing: Reduces max cooldowns by 10%.
- Grey Wizard’s Hat – Brilliance: +100% max mana.
All of the Armor you will want for this build will be custom-made through crafting or bought from the Auction house. Below is the ideal perk spread you will want across all of your armor pieces. They are listed in order of importance from top to bottom. Start with armor with 2 perks on it and work your way up to three!
- Unending Thaw
- Deadly Frost
- Refreshing (4)
- Elemental Aversion (5)
- Refreshing Pillar of Fire
Weapons
Artifact Weapon
For this build, there currently is no recommended Artifact Fire Staff or Ice Gauntlet. As of right now, there is no Ice Gauntlet Artifact in the game. However, there is a Fire Staff, named Inferno. Unfortunately though it does not fit the builds goals.
As with most builds in New World, a crafted weapon will be your BIS for this build. The perks are listed in order of importance from Left to Right. Two perk gear is very affordable atm so you should be able to get ahold of weapons with the purple perks listed.
Fire Staff – Empowering Fireball, Flame Attunement, Plagued Crits
Until you are able to obtain one, Firevine Battlestaff from Garden of Genesis is a very good replacement
Ice Gauntlet – Keen, Vicious, Keenly Empowered
Until you are able to locate an Ice Gauntlet with these perks, Blackguard’s Ice Gauntlet(Tempest Heart), Winter Wish (Garden of Genesis), and Taiyings Heart (Dynasty Shipyard) are all good options
Jewelry
All of your jewelry will need to be custom-crafted. The perks for each piece are in order of importance from right to left so you can prioritize obtaining them
Amulet – Health, Shirking Empowerment, Refreshing or Stamina Recovery with a Protection perk. For an artifact, we highly recommend “Ankh”.
Ring – Keen Awareness, Hearty, Invigorating Punishment or Champions Ring from the PVP Reward Track
Earring – Refreshing Toast, Healthy Toast, Refreshing. “Endless Thirst” is a fantastic Artifact choice. Providing increased potion potency.
Gems
The Meta and your resistance division will determine what gems you use in your armor. Runeglass of Frozen Malachites or Runeglass of Frozen Diamonds is the recommended gems to balance your armor as these provide the most amount of resistance possible.
In your weapons, you’ll want to use the following gems
- Firestaff – Runeglass of Frozen Opal
- Ice Gauntlet – Runeglass of Frozen Opal
Heartgem Rune
The recommended Heartgem for this build is the Brutal Heartrune of Fire Storm. This grants you extra burst and can deal massive amounts of AOE damage while also cancelling your animation for clean combos. If you would like a more defensive Heartgem, you can go with Cunning Heartgem of Grasping Vines. Brutal Heartrune of Detonate is a fantastic Heartgem to combo with the Fire Staff’s Burnout spell.
Consumables
Potion
Consumables on this build are pretty straight forward. You will want one of each type of Infused potion on your bar (Health, Mana, and Regen) and a Stack of Hearty Meals. When your Health pots are on cooldown, you should use an Infused Regeneration Potion and Hearty Meal together while kiting away to increase survivability and reduce time out of the fight.
Food and Utility
You will use food to balance out your gear to your desired Attribute Thresholds. The cheapest food available with the appropriate stats is most likely:
Honing stones are a must, you can’t afford Powerful Honing Stones, make sure you use a lower-tiered option to squeeze out damage. Pop it before the activity as you only have a few spots on your Hotbar. Oakflesh Balm or GemStone Dust can be slotted to help provide increased survivability while under damage or in bad situations in place of Hearty Meals. Again, if needed, use a lowered-tier option.
How to use the Elementalist New World Ice Gauntlet Build
In this section of the guide, we will break down the key strategies to using the Elementalist Build effectively. These include Dealing Damage and Kiting Enemies/Zone Control.
Dealing Damage
The most effective way to put out large amounts of damage is using your cooldowns frequently and effectively along with applying pressure with your light and heavy attacks at range. The Elementalists excels at AOE damage but has decent burst when you use your cooldown effectively. Make sure you are laying down your fireballs and Ice Storms in meaningful spots such as clumps of healers or opponent mages in large group fights. This pushes them off their location and stops them from also “free-casting”. You do NOT want to just lay your AOE damage on points to stack useless damage onto tanks to farm stats.
To utilize this perfectly, pay attention to your smolder stacks on a target. Having smolder stacks provides other aspects of your kite with benefits. As an example, Pillar of Fire increased in damage by 5% per smolder stack on a target. As a result of this, building up stacks and timing huge burst windows will also be the difference maker between a good elementalist and a great elementalist!
The perfect way to dish out a strong combo is the following:
- Heavy attack
- Fireball
- Light attack
- Burnout
- Animation cancel with the Fire Storm Heartrune
- Pillar of Fire (using the smolder stacks gained)
Single Target
When applying damage to a single melee target, you should be using the light attack of your fire staff as they close the gap, kiting them away with your dodge and applying smolder stacks. There is a world where you can heavy attack too as it provides an AoE splash, landing hits has never been easier! As they close in, your primary effort should be to land an Ice shower on your target. From here you can cast Ice Storm and Fireball on the target and use Pillar of Fire, buffed in damage due to the smolder stacks to finish the target off. This sequence applies large amounts of pressure on a target in a short amount of time.
Use Burn Out offensively or light attack to finish off your targets. You can also use burnout to create space if needed and then start kiting with your dodge, hitting your targets with light attacks from your fire staff until dead.
Kiting Enemies and Zone Control
The Key to Kiting Melee opponents is in the anticipation of your opponent’s movement and using the abilities of your Ice Gauntlet to CC your enemy. For Instance, Burnout will help you create distance between you and your target but due to its cast time, you must use it before they get too close.
Ice Shower can be used to root your enemy or create a barrier between you and your target to avoid damage and create space. You can use Ice Storm in the same manner, as an AOE to create a barrier between enemies or land it on them to slow them down. You can also use both of these barriers for Zone Control such as points in OPR or to flush enemies from behind the barrier in Arena.
The main mechanic of kiting is dodging. Using your dodge when available to create space between you and your opponent is necessary to keep them at distance. Remember, they are using their dodge to get to you, you must use yours to get away.
Finally, make sure to apply your Plagued Crits disease to not just the target in front of you, but the enemy healer(s) too. Applying disease to healers actually lowers their healing output on OTHER players.
